Nancy Nash, founder of YummyYucky, laughing with her baby son Damian on her lap
Nancy and Damian

Hi there, I'm Nancy Nash, founder of YummyYucky. I became a first-time mom at 44, after more than a decade working in health and fitness, so giving our son the healthiest possible start mattered to me from day one, the way I know it does to you. I already ate pretty well, but during my pregnancy I pushed myself to eat an even wider variety than usual, hoping to set our baby up with a broad palate. I also made a point of working common food allergens into my own diet, after learning it could lower the odds that our son would develop a food allergy.

At 35 weeks I woke early one morning thinking my water had broken, and walked into the bathroom to find I was bleeding heavily. At the hospital they confirmed our son was completely fine, but that my placenta had partially separated from the uterine wall. The plan became bedrest at the hospital and a delivery at 37 weeks. I am delighted to say we welcomed a healthy, strong baby who was quite literally kicking his way out.

If you are a parent, you know that was just the beginning. Within 24 hours our son had lost more weight than our team was comfortable with, so we began topping up every feed with formula. For the next week we saw the pediatrician daily, where he was weighed, measured, and checked, and we were asked in detail about his activity and behavior. We tracked every minute of breastfeeding, every ounce of formula, the details of every diaper, and every wink of sleep.

I did my best to write it all down and to wake him to eat right on schedule. Eventually he settled onto a good growth curve and we could finally exhale. Even after the daily check-ups stopped, I kept tracking, partly to catch any regression and partly to have real information for his pediatrician and my lactation appointments. When we started solids at 5 months, I realized my system, by then a pile of notebooks, was going to fall badly short for introducing allergens, watching for reactions, and remembering to bring each one back once it had been introduced.

Enter YummyYucky. What started as a fun way to track those first bites became a kind of memory book, with photos and videos of every face. Then we added breastfeeding, bottles, diapers, and sleep, and I realized we had something special: the whole day in one place. Today it has grown into an extensive food library with science-backed guidance on introducing each food, plus articles answering the questions parents Google most.

We have built in tools that:

We are always working to make YummyYucky better, and we would genuinely love to hear how it has helped, or what would help more. Reach us with compliments, questions, and concerns at hello@yummyyuc.ky.

Here's to lots of yummies, the occasional yucky, and a whole lot of memories along the way.
