When can babies eat asparagus?

Asparagus works as a first food from around 6 months once it is cooked tender. Whole soft spears make a natural, easy-to-hold shape for baby-led weaning, and the tips mash easily for younger eaters.

How to prepare asparagus, by age

6 monthsSteam or roast whole spears until very soft, then hand over as a spear, or mash the tender tips.
9 monthsOffer soft, bite-sized pieces cut from the tender parts as your baby picks up smaller bits.
12 months+Soft chopped asparagus stirred into eggs, rice, or family meals.
