Sesame allergy in babies

Sesame is now recognized as a major allergen and shows up in tahini, hummus, and some breads. It can be introduced around 6 months, most easily as smooth tahini or hummus.

Safe ways to serve sesame

⚠️ Use smooth tahini/hummus, thinned as needed. Whole sesame seeds add little and can be gritty for young babies.

Frequently asked questions

How do I introduce sesame to my baby?

A common way is a small amount of smooth tahini or hummus around 6 months. Offer it on its own so you can watch for any reaction.
