Beet and apple puree

6 months+

Earthy, bright, and a little sweet. A colorful first veg.

Ingredients

Good to know

Beets are naturally high in nitrates, so serve it fresh and do not batch-store cooked beet puree for days.

A vivid pink in the next diaper is harmless.

No added salt (a baby's kidneys can only handle a little), no added sugar before age 2, and no honey before age 1 (it can carry a botulism risk). More on salt, sugar, and honey.

Instructions

  1. Steam or roast one small peeled beet with one peeled, cubed apple until both are very soft, about 20 minutes.
  2. Blend smooth with a little water.
  3. Serve lukewarm.
