Homemade animal crackers
12 months+Lower-sugar animal crackers you control. You decide how sweet.
Ingredients
- • 1 cup Whole-wheat or oat flour
- • 1/2 tsp Baking powder
- • pinch Salt
- • 1/4 cup Unsalted butter (softened)
- • 2 tbsp Milk
- • 1 tbsp Maple syrup (adjustable)
- • 1/2 tsp Vanilla
Good to know
Contains wheat and milk: introduce each on its own first.
Keep airtight for 3 to 5 days, or freeze.
For a newer eater, soften a cracker in milk or yogurt first, offer one at a time, and keep them seated and supervised.
Instructions
- Heat the oven to 375F and line a sheet with parchment.
- Mix the flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
- Work in the softened butter, milk, maple syrup, and vanilla until it forms a dough, adding a splash more milk if it stays crumbly.
- Roll 1/4-inch thick between two floured sheets of parchment and cut with small animal cutters.
- Bake 7 to 9 minutes, until the edges just turn golden.
- Cool fully so they firm up.
