Homemade animal crackers

12 months+

Lower-sugar animal crackers you control. You decide how sweet.

Ingredients

Good to know

Contains wheat and milk: introduce each on its own first.

Keep airtight for 3 to 5 days, or freeze.

For a newer eater, soften a cracker in milk or yogurt first, offer one at a time, and keep them seated and supervised.

Instructions

  1. Heat the oven to 375F and line a sheet with parchment.
  2. Mix the flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
  3. Work in the softened butter, milk, maple syrup, and vanilla until it forms a dough, adding a splash more milk if it stays crumbly.
  4. Roll 1/4-inch thick between two floured sheets of parchment and cut with small animal cutters.
  5. Bake 7 to 9 minutes, until the edges just turn golden.
  6. Cool fully so they firm up.
