No-sugar applesauce
6 months+Two apples and a pot. Store-bought sweetness without the added sugar.
Ingredients
- • 2 Apples
- • a pinch, optional Cinnamon
Good to know
Sweet apples like Fuji or Gala need no sugar at all, which is the point.
Blend fully smooth for a first-spoonfuls baby; leave soft lumps as chewing comes along.
Keeps 4 days in the fridge and freezes well in cubes.
No added salt (a baby's kidneys can only handle a little), no added sugar before age 2, and no honey before age 1 (it can carry a botulism risk). More on salt, sugar, and honey.
Instructions
- Peel, core, and chop 2 apples.
- Simmer them with 3 tbsp water in a covered pot for 12 to 15 minutes, until completely soft.
- Mash with a fork for texture, or blend smooth for a younger baby.
- Stir in a pinch of cinnamon if you like, and cool before serving.
